“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)

After class today I met with two friends and ate slice of pizza for a buck, oh those métro pizzas shops! Then we went to the movie theatre to find an empty room. It was a huge room, but empty. Finally a couple people came in and I think we were about 10 people in the room. The Nativity.

I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew is that I had seen the previews on TV and thought that it’d be neat to see it. Movies like that usually don’t make their way to the theatre… or are not produced at all. So we sat there for almost two hours (if you count the 15 minute-add time at the beginning). And to be honest… I was generally not really impressed with the movie. Well, don’t get me wrong. I am glad I went. But again, there was a big problem with the actors. I think that it’s always been sort of a fact 9apart for some movies) that “religious” films are blah. What I mean is that, the actors don’t show emotions, or when they do, it’s weak, or not the way I think (and what I think is only my personal opinion) the real charaters felt. They are always very serious. So that was something annoying, but eh. And they did the opposite with “God’s voice” when He speaks to Zechariah in the Holy of holies. Because Zechariah doesn’t believe his wife could give birth in her old age, God’s voice is really angry towards him, when I think that God probably wasn’t that angry… but that’s only my opinion.  Overall it was good.  Obviously, only a few verses or a chapter in the Bible was written about the account of Jesus’ birth, so there was not so much to talk about, not  much action, which is fine. So the movie reflected that… but they threw in a few scenes to bring some action… scenes that aren’t in the Bible, but you know, many must have happened anyways and we just don’t know, so I think it’s fine, as long as it doesn’t go against the biblical account.

To be honest, no I didn’t cry and I don’t think it was a movie that would make people cry, such as the Passion of the Christ. But my eyes did get watery at some points in the movie. Why? Just because this story is preciousto me because it’s the birth of the Messiah, the Savior, God Himself coming to earth to save His people from their sins. It was just the thought that a Savior was given to us, human beings, to see people coming to worship Jesus and getting on their knees… I don’t know, it’s just powerful, the Creator had come and deserved to be worshipped.

So if you can’t see it, don’t worry. You’re not missing something big… but make sure you don’t miss Jesus in your heart this Christmas season, and never in your life.

hmm. karine and i wanted to go see this movie.

  1. You want(past) to go see it?

  2. I don’t know. I kind of liked most of the actors. But you’re right, it was not the most cool of films. I would watch it in English sometime to see if I like it better.

At least it was better than the “10 commandments” movies. hehe.

  3. ha ha ha. This movie is SO old!
